Women Artists Only Please…At the CHART Art Fair scheduled for August 2020

Women Artists Only Please…At the CHART Art Fair scheduled for August 2020

Based in Copenhagen, CHART is the leading event for contemporary art and design. CHART has just announced that in August of 2020, CHART will include four more Nordic cities, Helsinki, Oslo, Reykjavik and Stockholm to their venue, where only women artists will be shown in art galleries across these cities.

Gender inequality is real. Gender inequality in the art world is a fact:

  • Only 13.7% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women.

  • According to the Global Art Market Report (2019) Just 24% of the 27,000 artists shown at art fairs in 2018 were women. Art fair sales that year totaled $16.5 billion.

“Gender imbalance is one of the biggest structural challenges on the art scene and in the art market,” says Nanna Hjortenberg, the fair’s art director. “Imagine if the entire artistic community could get together to collaborate in new ways, creating a more balanced and diverse art scene. We think it’s worth pushing for--for the benefit of all of us and for society at large.”
